Hi all,

A handful of classmates and I have banded together to start a new blog. Its primary discussion will revolve around economic, political and social issues, but will undoubtedly also cover pop culture, religion, philosophy, and a myriad of other topics.

I don’t plan to get rid of my personal blog, and I’m not sure how I will divide up posts between it and this new one I’m involved in. So, just plan on checking them both! The worst thing that can happen is you might learn something.

So, why not head over to Unconstrained Optimism?

I got tired of the old look for the site, so I’ve gotten a new one. I’m not sure how many will even notice, since, if you’re like me, you use an RSS reader rather than actually visit websites. But hey, it looks spiffy-er now, right?

On the old theme, categories and tags were not visible, so I didn’t really properly organize posts. Now I look at what past posts are tagged with and, wow. Why are some tags capitalized and others aren’t? And in general, what’s with some of the categories that posts are filed under?

I’m in the process of tweaking some of the aspects of this theme to suit my likes a little better. So I’ll probably get to reorganizing categories and tags in the next day or so.

Review of the Twilight Saga as well as the first movie from the series, Twilight.

Ratings of some of my professors, as well as classes, from this past semester.

Why Lincoln was a terrible president.

Time permitting, I might start fleshing out my philosophy on pride, selfishness, honesty, and self esteem, among others. (These topics, contrary to what some people might believe, are not in total agreement with Ayn Rand.)

I’ve gotten a few comments from people I don’t know… at least, I don’t know that I know them, or they’re trying to remain anonymous. I’ve gotten a few dropping f-bombs or other foul language. I delete them as soon as I see them. Others are rude. Some like to incite.

Generally, I don’t care what’s said on my blog, but keep in mind a few things.

1. Don’t be vulgar. My family and my parents read this site. And a lot of my friends who read this site are Mormon. While foul language doesn’t really bother me, I don’t want it being associated with my site. At all. If you can’t write intelligently enough to not drop an f-bomb (or other vulgarities), then you probably shouldn’t write comments on my site. Go over to Youtube. If I don’t know you, I’m likely to ban you from posting in the future. And if I do know you, I’ll harangue you and then edit your comment.

2. I tolerate rudeness a lot better from people I know. For those of you that like to be rude or incite others, that’s fine… if I know you. If I don’t know you, I think it’s pretty cowardly to run your mouth about how stupid me or others are. At the very least, have the spine to put your real email address when you comment, and reply to my emails when I ask you who you are.

3. Don’t get drastically off topic from the post topic. Or specifically, if I close comments on a specific blog because things were getting out of hand, don’t go to another unrelated blog and post your comments. That’s just immature. If you have something you feel inclined to tell me related to something I’ve closed down, email me or call me. If you don’t know how to contact me, then I probably don’t want to hear from you anyway.

4. Don’t pass judgement on me regarding my standing in the Church and think you’ll get away with it. I won’t really say any more about that, because God metes out justice, not me.

I realized that sometimes things don’t really fit in the categories I came up with, but I don’t want to have a long list of categories. Tags are kind of silly too. The search function over there works well enough that categories and tags seem almost pointless.

So basically, the site’s just gotten a little more simpler. I’m sure nobody except me even notices.

Quick post–

I woke up at 4:30 this morning to do calculus homework. My first real calc class. We are learning about limits right now. Does anyone else think this stuff is fun? A cursory survey of my classmates finds I am in the minority. But anyway, I like it. Am I the only one?

In other news, Ashley and I got married a week and a half ago, Saturday, May 31. Since then, I’ve been in the slow process of moving my stuff over there. Unfortunately, we are remodeling the house and waiting to buy furniture, so I am desk- and workspace-less for the time being. My computer and most of my stuff, therefore, is still at my parents’ house. It should all get moved over within the next 2-3 weeks, though. And then I’ll blog more reguarly, I think.
